An intensive education programme aimed at young scientists, providing a comprehensive grounding in influenza virus and MERS-CoV with a unique opportunity to interact with world-renowned experts in the field.
Continuing Medical Education
An application has been made to the UEMS EACCME® for CME accreditation of the School of Respiratory Viruses.
Background
The first School of Influenza took place in 2011 in Siena, Italy. Following its success, two further Schools were held in 2012 and 2016. To date, 135 students have been educated. ISRV now plans to extend this educational programme to different parts of the world where there is demand, with the Middle East as the first step. The vision is for the School of Respiratory Viruses to become ISRV’s flagship training and outreach initiative for the next generation of respiratory virus specialists.
Concept
The School is aimed at graduate students and early-career scientists in influenza (or other respiratory viruses) public health, surveillance, research, or product development. It provides a comprehensive understanding of epidemiology, molecular biology, immunology, pathogenesis, and control strategies for influenza. The scope will now also cover MERS-CoV.
Programme
The scientific programme will span 5 days with at least 30 hours of lessons, presentations, and discussion sessions. It offers a comprehensive grounding in many aspects of influenza and other respiratory viruses, including research techniques and surveillance, with a special focus on MERS-CoV. The course is designed for a minimum of 30 students, with around 60 expected.
