Join us at the 7th ISRV School of Respiratory Virus: Advancing Knowledge, Collaboration, and Impact

Dear Colleagues,

Respiratory viruses remain one of the greatest challenges to global public health — from seasonal outbreaks to pandemic threats. The need for skilled, collaborative professionals who can bridge disciplines and innovate solutions has never been greater.

Together with the Hong Kong University (HKU), we invite you to participate in the 7th School of Respiratory Viruses, a 5-day residential school that spans a multidisciplinary program designed for postgraduate students, early career scientists, clinicians, public health professionals, and policy makers who are committed to advancing the understanding and control of respiratory pathogens. ISRV schools are unique events held in different regions to build and strengthen local and regional capacities. Past schools have been held in Italy, Lebanon, India and Qatar, training over 300 young scientists. The 7th School will be the first to be held in East Asia.

We are excited to host the School in Hong Kong, a city of stunning harbour and scenic mountains. More importantly, Hong Kong is also a city rich in the history of fighting infectious diseases- from the 1894 Hong Kong plague to the 2003 SARS outbreak- demonstrating a legacy of resilience that we can learn and be inspired from. As such, the 7th School will include a special focus on emerging influenza and coronaviruses, documenting its’ history to current ongoing challenges around the world.

Through lectures, workshops, field trips, and networking opportunities with global and local experts, you will:

  • Build, strengthen and integrate knowledge across disciplines — virology, immunology, epidemiology, clinical sciences, and social sciences — to understand the basis of current control and intervention strategies.
  • Sharpen your analytical and problem-solving skills – to interpret complex data, assess public health measures, and propose innovative solutions to regional and global challenges.
  • Enhance your communication skills to effectively convey scientific concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Build lasting professional networks that foster cross-disciplinary collaboration for prevention, detection, and rapid response to seasonal, pandemic, and zoonotic respiratory viruses.
  • Learn from global experts and mentors on how to build a successful career and make an impact.

Whether your focus is research, clinical care, public health practice, or policy development, we invite you to be part of this unique alumni of respiratory scientists. Come learn, share, and collaborate at the 7th School of Respiratory Virus — where knowledge meets action.

For full details and to submit an application, visit the School of Respiratory Viruses application page. Travel scholarships will be available to support participants from under resourced regions. The program overview is available on the event website.

We look forward to welcoming you.
