About
The ISRV NEXUS Special Interest Group focuses on neglected, emerging, cross-species and understudied respiratory viruses. Building on the Neglected Influenza Viruses community, it connects researchers and practitioners across human, animal and environmental health through a One Health approach.
Influenza remains central to the group’s scope, including influenza C and D and influenza viruses in pigs, horses, dogs and other understudied hosts. Its broader focus includes henipaviruses, coronaviruses, pneumoviruses, metapneumoviruses and other respiratory viruses where important gaps remain in our understanding of host range, transmission and disease burden.
NEXUS aims to strengthen collaboration across virology, veterinary medicine, epidemiology, ecology and public health. Its priorities include improving surveillance, understanding transmission between species, sharing research methods and identifying overlooked threats. The group also seeks to support early-career researchers and strengthen participation from regions where research and surveillance capacity are limited.
