The ISRV Options XIII Mini-School took place in Washington, DC on 29 August 2026, bringing together Early Career Researchers (ECRs) from around the world for a day of learning, discussion and connection ahead of Options XIII.
The programme provided an accessible introduction to key areas of respiratory virus research, helping participants build their knowledge and confidence ahead of the main scientific meeting. Alongside expert-led sessions spanning respiratory virus disease, immunity, antivirals and next-generation vaccines, the programme included career-focused content and opportunities for ECRs to engage directly with leading researchers in the field.
The Mini-School formed part of a wider programme of ISRV Education and ECR activities across Options XIII, designed to create opportunities for ECRs to learn, connect and build their professional networks. This included an ECR Alumni Networking event, the first-ever Conference Connections initiative pairing ECRs with senior researchers, a dedicated ECR Social Evening, and a lunchtime workshop exploring ‘How to get published’.
Together, these activities created multiple opportunities for ECRs to meet peers and established researchers, exchange ideas and become more connected with the international respiratory virus research community.
